F. Lee Bailey, legendary lawyer, passes away at age 87

Famed criminal defense attorney, F. Lee Bailey, died June 3, 2021, at the age of 87, just seven days shy of his 88th birthday. As a trial lawyer, Bailey’s career is highlighted by such sensational cases as Dr. Sam Sheppard, Dr. Carl Coppolino, the Boston Strangler, Patty Hearst and O.J. Simpson. Among his previous books is the national bestseller, The Defense Never Rests. Bailey ended his career as a consultant based in Atlanta, Georgia. His latest book, The Truth About the O.J. Simpson Trial, is to be released June 4, 2021.

In Lee’s wise words once offered to a grieving friend, he said, “Don’t feel badly for the heavy sorrow… Death is one of the hard, grinding unpleasantries of life. Some go quickly, and the unfortunate do not. Good friends must grieve if they were indeed good friends.”

We must indeed…

Sincerest condolences to Lee’s family, his many, many friends and colleagues, and to those he has inspired along the way. Godspeed, sir.
